Dr. Frank Purpera

Frank Purpera, M.D., RPhS was born and raised in Louisiana. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, he accepted an offer to study medicine in Cambridge, UK, one of the most prestigious and historic campuses within Europe. It was during this time that he gained firsthand experience of socialized medicine within the United Kingdom as well as medicine in underserved areas of the world, which included Zimbabwe and Hungary. Following these rewarding educational years he returned home for clinical training at Louisiana State University in New Orleans. Dr. Purpera completed his extensive surgical training in New York City and the surrounding area. After finishing his internship at St Vincent’s Hospital Manhattan, a 200-year-old institution, he started his surgical residency at Mount Sinai Cabrini Hospital. Due to the economic turmoil of the healthcare system in New York and the closure of the 120-year-old Mount Sinai Cabrini Hospital he continued his surgical training in nearby New Jersey at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Newark, where he graduated and completed his surgical training. He is board certified by the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine (ABVLM),the most comprehensive examination of knowledge in venous disease available today. He is also certified by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the American College of Surgery for minimally invasive surgery and holds a Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery certificate. Dr. Purpera’s professional memberships include American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, American Venous Forum, American College of Phlebology and New York County Medical Society. He was a Golden Apple Nominee in 2010, which is a top medical teaching award offered in New Jersey. Dr.Purpera has been listed in the “Guide to America’s Top Surgeons” 2011 & 2012 editions as well as Virginia's 2013 edition of Our Health Magazine for his Top Bedside Manner. He licensed to practice medicine in New York, New Jersey, Florida & Virginia. His interest outside of medicine includes skiing, traveling (currently over 35 countries visited) and cooking.
